If you'd like to see more of Stranglehold, you can check out the throwback launch trailer from 12 years ago attached down below. It took nearly a decade to come to fruition, but today's development finally puts those requests to rest. Since that time, many fans have just been eager to see Stranglehold become available once again for sale in a digital format. Unfortunately, Midway ended up going bankrupt a few years later in 2009 and the project was canned. Stranglehold was well-received by many critics when it came out and a sequel called Gun Runner was planned to be in the works. The game prominently featured abilities such as bullet-time which was previously made popular in the Max Payne series.

Stranglehold was meant to be a video game sequel to Hard Boiled, one of Woo's most popular films, and as such was very cinematic in its presentation. I will continue playing if the mouse issue can be fixed. If you're unfamiliar with Stranglehold, it was a shooter that was helped produced by famed Chinese actor John Woo. Stranglehold appears to be a very short game, and I'm even considering skipping all pre-rendered cinematics because they have been so heavily compressed. I completed Stranglehold all the way through way back at release and it was a pretty mediocre experience and not worth the time IMO. Sleeping Dogs is graphically impressive and Definitive Edition has some additional improvements. Killed enemies disappear and I specifically noted how bodies never vanish in Max Payne 1-2.

Stranglehold has been clearly developed with the consoles in mind, textures are poor and while there is environmental destructability, it feels scripted and often looks weak (for example a basket of fruits explodes and fruits vanish in the air). Yes I have, and both MP games top Stranglehold in terms of spectacle and to my eye even MP1 from 2001 looks better graphically. Have you played the Max Payne series for your dual fisted slo-mo shooty action and Sleeping Dogs for your HK action movie fix?
